Framing Calculators

Framing splits into two jobs: counting members and sizing them. The Framing Calculator handles the count — field studs at your spacing plus the extras for corners, partition intersections and openings, and the plate stock. The other three are estimate-only structural tools: the Floor Joist Calculator counts joists and estimates their allowable span, the Wood Beam Span Calculator estimates how far a sawn or built-up beam carries a uniform load, and the Door Header Size Calculator picks the smallest common header that spans an opening for the load above it. Those three apply standard beam mechanics to design values you enter from the AWC NDS Supplement — they carry an engineering-verification notice, and a licensed engineer or your building official must review the final design before you build. Cross-check every span against the IRC prescriptive tables.
