Privacy Policy

None that identifies you. BuildFactor does not ask for your name, email address, phone number or any account details, and there is no login.

Like every website, the service that hosts BuildFactor automatically receives standard technical request information when your browser loads a page — your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, your browser and operating system type, and the referring page. This is used only to serve the site, keep it available and protect it from abuse. We do not combine it with anything else or use it to build a profile of you.

• No accounts, passwords or contact details.
• No cookies of any kind.
• No analytics, measurement or session-recording tools.
• No advertising, ad networks or ad identifiers.
• No third-party trackers, pixels, social widgets or embedded content.
• No location data beyond the coarse region implied by an IP address in server logs.
• The values you type into a calculator are never transmitted anywhere.

BuildFactor uses your browser's local storage (not cookies) to remember a few things between visits. This data stays on your device, is readable only by BuildFactor in that browser, and is never uploaded:

• Favorites — the calculators you star.
• Recently used — calculators you have completed a calculation on, so they appear on the homepage.
• Saved calculations — for each one you save: the calculator, its version, the unit system, the input values and units you entered, and both the exact and recommended results.
• Preferences — your imperial/metric choice, light/dark theme, recent search terms, and whether you have dismissed the “install app” prompt.

You can clear all of it at any time by clearing site data for BuildFactor in your browser settings, or by using the “Clear” and delete controls within the app. Clearing it removes your favorites, history and saved calculations permanently, because we hold no copy.

The numbers you enter — dimensions, prices, load values — are processed only in your browser to produce a result. They are not logged or sent to a server. If you choose to save a calculation, it is written to your browser's local storage as described above and stays there until you delete it.

BuildFactor sets no cookies. It uses local storage for the preferences listed above, and a service worker cache (below) so the app works offline. Neither is used for tracking.

There is currently no analytics provider and no advertising on BuildFactor. If that changes, this policy will be updated first, the tool used will be named here, and a privacy-respecting option will be chosen.

The web fonts are downloaded when the site is built and served from BuildFactor's own domain, so loading a page makes no request to a font provider or other third party. The site is delivered by a hosting provider (currently Vercel), which processes the standard request information described above in order to serve the pages.

BuildFactor can be installed to your home screen. A service worker caches the app shell and the calculators you have opened so they keep working with no connection. The cache lives in your browser, contains only BuildFactor's own files, and is cleared when you clear site data or uninstall the app. A new version never activates without your confirmation.

Calculator pages link to external references — standards bodies, manufacturers, code resources — as citations for their formulas. Those links open in a new tab. Once you leave BuildFactor, the privacy policy of the site you visit applies; we have no control over and take no responsibility for those sites.

We keep no personal data, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete on your behalf. The data stored locally in your browser is retained until you clear it. Hosting request logs are retained by the hosting provider for a short period under their own policy and then discarded.

BuildFactor is a professional construction tool and is not directed to children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone, children included.

Pages are served over HTTPS. Because BuildFactor holds no accounts and no personal data on a server, there is no user database to breach. Data kept in your browser is protected by your device and browser security.

If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated and the change will be reflected on this page. Material changes — for example, introducing analytics — will be described plainly.
