- The depth you enter is the FINISHED compacted depth; the waste allowance converts it to the loose volume you order.
- Dense-graded aggregate base (crusher run / DGA / ABC) at ~140 lb/ft³ compacted.
- A rectangular sub-base area at one uniform depth; for a curved or flared driveway, break it into rectangles.
- Do I enter loose or compacted depth?
- Enter the finished compacted depth you want. The 15% allowance converts it to the loose volume you order, because base material is delivered loose and loses volume when rolled.
- What is crusher run / ABC / DGA?
- Different regional names for the same thing: a dense-graded blend of crushed stone and stone dust that locks together hard when compacted. It's the standard base under a driveway, slab or paver patio, not a finish surface.

Compacted dense-graded aggregate base ≈ 2,100–2,200 kg/m³ (≈140 lb/ft³). State-DOT base-course specifications.
About the Road Base Calculator
The Road Base Calculator sizes the dense-graded aggregate (crusher run, ABC, DGA) that forms the compacted sub-base under a driveway, slab or paver installation. Enter the finished compacted depth you want — the waste allowance converts it to the larger loose volume you actually order, because base material loses 15–20% of its bulk when it is rolled. The surface course above it is a separate calculation.
